The aim of the M.Phil. Programme in Political Science, with relevant courses in education is to train competent graduates with requisite spatial knowledge and teaching skills to critically analyze and address governance-related issues as well as provide competent tuition in government and government related subjects at the senior high school level and other institutions of higher learning The Programme is in Political Science and aims to develop the human capital necessary for critical research and teaching at the tertiary levels and also train the human capital necessary for ensuring higher standards in Political Science education and research. The specific objectives of the programme are: build capacity of Political Science teachers and researchers for senior high schools and other higher educational institutions in the country; develop requisite pedagogical skills for teaching and learning in Political Science; equip students with practical knowledge and skills to fit into Political Science and the real world of work; expose students to advanced comparative knowledge in Political Science; equip students with advanced analytical skills and techniques to identify, investigate, analyze, formulate and propose solutions to problems in Political Science; and provide students with the philosophical bases and research skills in quantitative and qualitative techniques to undertake research in Political Science.
