Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates, with doctoral
level research interests in the field of business and management, for
admission to PhD in Business and Management Programme at the KNUST
School of Business (KSB).
At the time of application, all applicants should possess both Bachelor's
degree (minimum of Second Honours Upper Division) and Master's degree
MSc/MBA/MA/MPhil) in relevant fields (e.g., Entrepreneurship and
Innovation, Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Strategy, HRM, Supply
Chain Management, Management Information Systems, International
Business, Hospitality and Tourism) from a recognised higher education
institution.
Research Proposals
All applicants are required to submit a 3-to-5-page research proposal (1.5
spaced, 12 font size, 1-inch margin and inclusive of references and
appendices) that addresses the following themes.
i. Indicate the initial title of the research.
ii. Explain the research problem, and discuss why it is important (for theory,
practice, and policy) to research the problem identified.
iii. Following discussion of the research problem, applicants must clearly
indicate the objective of their research.
iv. Applicants must also explain how their proposed research will contribute
to existing knowledge in the identified business and management field, and
how it can improve managers' and policy-makers' efforts to grand challenges
in business and management.
v. Applicant must further explain briefly (in one paragraph each) the
following methodological issues:
a. The context of the proposed research (e.g., agriculture, healthcare,
Fintech, banking, mining etc. sectors).
b. Indication of the approaches to data collection: qualitative, quantitative
or both.
с. The proposed sampling frame and why this is preferred.
d. The proposed informants/respondents and the criteria to be used for
including and excluding informants/respondents in the sampleNote, all applicants must discuss their proposals with a potential supervisor
from KNUST School of Business. The potential supervisor must be at least
a senior lecturer rank. The proposed supervisor must sign a form which
should be attached to the application forms.
Interview and Proposal Presentation
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview and presentation
session on a date and a venue to be communicated. Candidates should,
therefore, prepare a 10-minute PowerPoint Presentation based on their
research proposal and be physically available to present their proposals to a
panel.
Limited Scholarship Award
Limited numbers of PARTIAL scholarship awards may be available to
highly deserving candidates from low-income and disadvantaged
backgrounds. Preference will be given to deserving female applicants.
Duration
Three (3) Academic Years (Full Time only)
Successful candidates will start in the first semester of the 2024/2025
academic year and be required to be physically present on KNUST campus
during the entire duration of study, including weekday and weekend classes.
Please Note:
MBA FULL-TIME students shall be made to choose to join EITHER the
EVENING or WEEKEND stream in the Second Year.
