Programme Overview
The Programme aims at:
• Enabling the Early Grade Educator to know the meaning, nature, principles and foundations of Early
Grade Education.
• Enabling Early Grade educators understand the roles and functions of Early Grade teachers in the
context of the emerging trends in child development.
• Exposing trainees to the techniques of handling specific Early Grade subjects.
Domestic Requirements
WASSCE Holders
• Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language
and Mathematics, plus
• Credit passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects.
1.4.4.2 SSSCE Holders
• Credit (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects including English Language,
Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies, plus
• Credit passes (A-D) in three (3) relevant elective subjects.
1.4.4.3 TVET Holders:
• Credit (A-D) in three (3) Core subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated
Science/Science OR Social Studies, plus
• Credit passes in three (3) Elective subjects relevant to the course of study.Full Diploma Certificate in ABCE
• Also, the applicant must have had credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language,
Mathematics, Integrated Science OR Social Studies in the GBCE or SSSCE or WASSCE.
• ABCE candidates may be considered for admission at Level 200 of a degree programme
1.4.4.5 General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Holders
• Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better)
• Credit passes (Grade 6) in five (5) GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language,
Mathematics, and
• A Science subject (for non-science students), and
• An Arts subject (for Science students)
1.4.4.6 Higher National Diploma (HND)/Diploma Holders
• Good HND certificate (i.e. at least, 2nd Class Lower Division)
• Other Diploma qualifications equivalent to HND
1.4.4.7 Mature Applicants
• Candidates must be at least 25 years by September 1 of the academic year s/he wants to enroll.
• Candidates must show proof of age with birth certificate OR
• Any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is, at least, five (5) years old at the time of
application.
• Must pass the following
