Programme Overview
The Programme aims at:
• Enabling the Early Grade Educator to know the meaning, nature, principles and foundations of Early
Grade Education.
• Enabling Early Grade educators understand the roles and functions of Early Grade teachers in the
context to the emerging trends in child development.
• Exposing trainees to the techniques to handling specific Early Grade subjects
Domestic Requirements
Applicants must possess, at least, one of the following qualifications:
1.4.14.1 WASSCE Holders:
• Six passes of which three are core subjects with at least D7 or better in Mathematics, English
Language and Social Studies or Integrated Science. Plus,
• Three (3) Credit passes (A1-C6) in relevant elective subjects.
1.4.14.2 SSSCE Holders:
• Credit (A-D) in Six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language,
Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies, plus
• Credit passes (A-D) in three (3) elective subjects relevant to the course of study.
1.4.14.3 Holders of TVET Qualifications:
• Credit in three (3) Core subjects including English Language and Mathematics, and PASSES in any two (2) elective subjects relevant to the course of study.
• A Distinction or Credit in Pre-School
• Teachers Certificate ‘A’
• People with higher qualifications can apply
1.4.14.4 Mature Applicants
• Candidates must be at least 25 years by September 1 of the academic year s/he wants to enroll.
• Must have completed Senior High School and or be a Teacher’s Certificate A/Diploma holder
• Must pass the following examinations:
- A General Aptitude Test and
- A Subject Area Test
both administered by the University.
