Programme Overview
The B.Ed. Early Childhood and B.Ed. Primary Education are designed to correct the deficiency in quality teaching at the elementary levels. The programmes will train highly qualified teachers in both content and pedagogy to teach at the Basic level of the educational ladder. The main objective of the B.Ed. Early Childhood and B.Ed. Primary Education programmes is to produce broad-based and competent teachers who would be able to function effectively at the early childhood and Primary level. The specific objectives of the B.Ed. (Primary Education) programmes in WIUC are to prepare students to Demonstrate an understanding of the teaching profession and make a commitment to professionalism; Demonstrate ability to administer and supervise at the early childhood and primary schools; Help children achieve social, emotional, linguistic, physical, and cognitive goals; Encourage the development of positive feelings and dispositions among pupils toward learning while leading to the acquisition of knowledge and skills; Foster children’s exploration and inquiry, rather than focusing on “right” answers or “right” ways to complete a task; Promote children’s development of higher-order cognitive abilities, such as thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making; Promote feelings of safety, security, and belongingness among the children; Demonstrate an understanding of the use of the classical model for teaching in primary schools; Graduates of these programmes at the end of their studies would have acquired: Love for working with children; Disciplinary Knowledge; Virtuous Character; Spiritual Character; Critical Thinking Skills; Communication Skills; Scientific and Quantitative Reasoning Skills; Information Literacy Skills; Pedagogical Skills. Study Options: Regular Evening Weekend CURRICULUM Early Childhood through Primary (B1 to B6) students would take a variety of courses related to children and their learning, development, and family environment. Students in this degree programme would work toward teacher certification in preschool through Primary Six (P1-P6). Early and continuous field experiences (in-class and out-of-class programmes) are provided to enhance the students professionalism in these programmes with integration of theory and practice in school settings. TEACHING METHOD: Multiple methods of instruction are used including lectures and discussions, case studies, small group works, fieldwork, experiments, critical thinking, and project report presentation skills. Domestic Requirements
WASSCE & SSSCE
Candidates must have six credits (A1-C6) in English, Mathematics, and Integrated Science (Biology or Agricultural Science for Nigerian applicants) or Social Studies, and three elective subjects, making an aggregate of no more than 36. For SSSCE, candidates must have six credits (A-D) in the three Core Subjects and three electives, making an aggregate of no more than 24.

Mature Students
Candidates must be at least 25 years old and must write and pass an entrance examination in English, Mathematics, IT, and General Business. They may also be required to attend an interview.

Others
Applicants with GCE, IGCSE, GBCE, ABCE, Baccalaureate, Professional Courses (ICA, ACCA, CIM, etc.), and HND, among others, may contact us for levels of placement.

Foreign Students:
Holders of GTEC-recognized qualifications can apply.
Applicants from non-English language-speaking countries’ ability to speak, read, and write English at a proficient level would be verified through a literacy and numeracy entrance exam.

Transfer Students:
A candidate who has been formally admitted as a regular student to a Bachelor’s Degree course in a University accredited by GTEC and made satisfactory progress over not less than one academic year may be considered as a transfer student.
