Programme Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Interior Design programme is an inspiring, rigorous and practical curriculum that offers students the unique opportunity to use creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. Currently, few tertiary institutions in the country run a comprehensive academic curriculum in Interior Design.The B.Sc. Interior Design students will undertake the same courses in the foundation level with other students in the B.Sc. Landscape Design, Graphic Design and Fashion Design programmes. The foundation of the programme introduces students to the multi-disciplinary fundamentals of design across different facets of design, such as techniques in form-making and conceptual visualisation. The design elements progressively increase in depth and complexity over the next three years with the introduction of the interior specialisation area interwoven with research, skills and visualisation to enhance the academics with profession-specific requirements.
The programme aims to offer an exceptional professional education programme that equips graduates with a repertoire of technical knowledge, creative skills and practical expertise to address interior design, development, construction and preservation of the built and to ground the educational, research and service activities of the school within a global context.
The objectives of the programme are to produce interior design professionals equipped with the necessary technical skills and aesthetic aptitude to:
develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform interior tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world;
build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills to design sustainable interior features and products for a wide range of users;
critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the works of others; and to develop students to become independent, creative and pragmatic, curious and analytical, imaginative and excellent specialists to (who can) establish their own businesses to cater to the local and international interior market needs.
Domestic Requirements
Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) Holders/Graduates: Credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects including English Language and Mathematics, plus any three (3) elective subjects;
West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Holders/Graduates:Credit passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus any three (3) elective subjects.
General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Holders/Graduates: Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Besides, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects (or its equivalent) including English Language, Mathematics and a science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject (for science students).
HND Holders/Graduates:
Applicants with at least 2nd Class Lower Division HND or an equivalent certificate in a design-related programme from any recognised University or Polytechnic will be admitted to Level 200 of the programme. The applicant must have acquired a 2-year post-HND qualification working experience.
Mature Applicants:
The applicant must provide an inductor letter from employer or show anyother proof of employment-related to the intended area of study;
The applicant must be at least 25 years old; The applicant must show proof of age with a birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of birthdate;
Holders of WASSCE, SSSCE or any other nationally recognised standardHigh School level examinations (for qualifications from countries outside WAEC’s aegis) who do not qualify for direct entry but are 25 years of age or above.
The applicant must pass the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination (English Language, Mathematics and an Aptitude Test) and a selection interview conducted for short-listed candidates. Instead of the examination, the applicant should show proof of credit passes in English and Mathematics in WASSCE or any other nationally recognised standard High School level examinations (for qualifications from countries outside WAEC’s aegis).
