Programme Overview
The aim of the programme is to offer holistic academic (theoretical) and practical training to equip graduates with a repertoire of technical knowledge, creative skills and practical expertise for career paths in the constantly evolving process of designing and making high-quality prototypes and products in the fashion industry. Objectives: The objectives of the programme are: a. to produce innovative and enterprising fashion design professionals equipped with the necessary technical skills and aesthetic understanding required to function effectively in highly competitive conditions; and b. to develop students to become independent, creative and pragmatic, curious and analytical, imaginative and excellent specialists to (who can) establish their own businesses to cater to the local and international fashion market needs. National Relevance of the Programme The fashion industry in Ghana is rapidly evolving from the limited traditional apparel and cultural designs into an industry which provides advanced designs for all facets of human living. By graduating from the Central University Fashion Design programme, graduates will join an elite band of professionals who are transforming the traditional Ghanaian fashion into an exciting and fast-growing industry that thrives on innovation and providing solutions to the challenges of the 21st century. The graduates will not only foster the growth of the fashion industry to boost the economy of the country but will also harness their academic capabilities with the future leadership challenges that lie ahead.
Domestic Requirements
i. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) Holders/Graduates:
Credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects including
English Language and Mathematics, plus any three (3) elective subjects;

ii. West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Holders/Graduates:
Credit passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including
English Language and Mathematics, plus any three (3) elective subjects.


iii. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Holders/Graduates:
Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better).
Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level
subjects (or its equivalent) including English Language, Mathematics and a science
subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject (for science students).


iv. HND Olders/Graduates:
Applicants with at least 2nd Class Lower Division HND or an equivalent certificate
in a design-related programme from any recognised University or Polytechnic will
be admitted to Level 200 of the programme. The applicant must have acquired a 2-
year post-HND qualification working experience.


v. Mature Applicants:
-The applicant must provide an inductor letter from employer or show any other
proof of employment-related to the intended area of study;
The applicant must be at least 25 years old; The applicant must show proof of
age with a birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of birth date;

-Holders of WASSCE, SSSCE or any other nationally recognized standard High
School level examinations (for qualifications from countries outside WAEC’s
aegis) who do not qualify for direct entry but are 25 years of age or above.
The applicant must pass the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination (English
Language, Mathematics and an Aptitude Test) and a selection interview
conducted for short-listed candidates. Instead of the examination, the applicant
should show proof of credit passes in English and Mathematics in WASSCE or
any other nationally recognised standard High School level examinations (for
qualifications from countries outside WAEC’s aegis).
International Requirements
The applicant must have qualifications equivalent to WASSCE, SSSCE, OND,
or GCE ’A’ Level to be considered for admission or any other nationally
recognised standard High School level examinations (for qualifications from
countries outside WAEC’s aegis).
All foreign qualifications are to be referred to the Ghana Tertiary Educational Commission
(GTEC) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission.
Applicants should have their results translated into English
